Now, talking about the small oversights such as forgetting admit cards, photographs, and identity proof can make things complicated and even prevent you from sitting in the examination hall.

Early mistakes can be frustrating and can affect your performance, so below are some personal experiences and life lessons that will help you reach the exam center with ease and keep you more focused and alert during exam time.

PGT: Exam Experience in Uttar Pradesh

It was in 2019 when I appeared for a PGT examination in Uttar Pradesh. I arrived in the city a day prior to the exam and booked a hotel.

The next day, I got up early and quickly got ready to go to the exam center. However, there was heavy rainfall outside.

The hotel staff booked an auto, and it came after 30 minutes or so. I was worried I might not reach the center on time. The destination point was about 10 kilometers away from the hotel, so it was another half-an-hour journey.

The worst thing happened when I found the exam center was located inside a narrow road, and I had to walk the rest of the distance.

My clothes, drenched in the rain, added further to my frustration. During the whole three-hour exam, I was in discomfort and not fully present.

Although I was not at fault for the situations beyond my control, I could have been better prepared.

Learnings As A Candidate

1. A simple thing I could check is the forecasted weather conditions on internet.

2. By checking the weather forecast, I could have kept an umbrella in my bag to avoid the uninvited problems.

GATE: Exam Experience In Punjab

In my early days as an educator, I appeared for every exam. This practice allowed me to gain more profound knowledge about the paper pattern and difficulty level of the question paper.

The firsthand experience also helped me tailor my teaching skills:

Learnings As An Educator

1. I learned the topics that are newly added.

2. Providing accurate guidance to GATE, UGC-NET, CUET, and other competitive exam students was easier. Read: Common Exam Hall Mistakes To Score More In UGC-NET English Literature Exam

3. It also helped me in identifying the problematic areas that students might find challenging to approach.

Above all, there is a unique experience behind every exam I attended.

in the year 2021, it happened like I had my GATE exam in Bathinda, Punjab.

It was a two-and-a-half-hour journey from my hometown, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. I had to reach the examination center at 8:00 am in the morning.

I planned to drive to the destination city. I woke up at 4 am and left my house by 5 am.

It was dark, making the drive difficult. I struggled to reach the destination, but finally made it before 8:00 am.

There were other issues, such as locating the examination center and parking issues, which contributed to unnecessary fatigue.

Now, I was exhausted and lost all the excitement and energy to deal with the question paper. It affected my performance.

I scored AIR 120 in GATE 2021. It only happened because I had years of teaching and learning experience.

I never suggest any aspirant drive to the exam center.

Either reach out a day before the exam or seek help from a friend who can drive to the exam center so that you can stay stress-free and focused during the examination.

UGC-NET: Exam Experience In Delhi

It is mandatory to carry 3-4 photographs, and photographs must be the same as those on the admit card.

I remember when I appeared for UGC-NET in 2018, I forgot to bring the photograph. Panic set in when I realized photographs are mandatory.

Fortunately, I have a habit of keeping passport-size photos in my wallet, and it came to my rescue. Otherwise, without the photographs, I would not have been permitted to enter the examination hall.

Note: Certain things are not allowed in the examination hall. You can keep the cash, but not wallets, car keys, watches, and gadgets. You have to keep all of them in your bag.

Generally, exam centers offer the facility to deposit the bags.

However, some centres are cruel. They simply ask to find a way to keep the bags out of examination center.

In that case, there will be a nearby shop which will take responsibility for keeping the bags. Charges for depositing a bag can be anywhere between 10 and 50 rupees.

Other Important Instructions

Do not get confused between a city intimation letter and an admit card. Some students carry city intimation letters instead of admit cards which is wrong. Without the admit card, students are not permitted to enter the examination hall.

Note

1. A black and white printout of the admit card will work, but it is still suggested to carry the colored printout of the admit card also.

Also, ensure that you make clear left-hand thumb impressions on both the printouts.

2. Keep two identity cards (one as a primary requirement and another as a backup). Check the admit card to determine which ID card is specified.

You might have mentioned the Adhaar Card while filling out the application form. Carry it along with another ID proof. If any specific ID proof is not mentioned on the admit card, carry any two.

3. It is essential to stay fresh during the exam. Water helps in dealing with stress and pressure. Avoid consuming the complete water bottle. Otherwise, it may lead to bathroom breaks.

4. Although the admit cards claim to provide you with a ballpoint, it is suggested that you carry a transparent ballpoint pen.

5. Finally, read all the instructions carefully mentioned on the admit card to avoid unnecessary stress during the exam day.
